Welcome to my Transcribe.Com review!
In this COVID-19 Pandemic, we’re faced with a change in the way we do work. Majority of us found ourselves lucky when we were relegated to working from home. A good number of people found themselves on the other side of luck when they lost their jobs due to the crisis.
Thankfully, the Internet and advancements in technology have made it possible for us to pursue other sources of income from the comforts of our own home. While working from home is not exactly a new trend, it gave a lot of people insight on how profitable it can actually be.
Today, we’re looking at a popular way to work from home: Transcription. And we’re reviewing a company called Transcribe.Com.
Will it be able to provide you with a full-time income?
First of all, I must Congratulate you for taking your time to do your own research before buying into any "seemingly good" product.
That's the way to avoid scams and find the legitimate way to make money online!
Let me be completely transparent with you, I'm not associated with Transcribe.Com in any form.
So, rest assured that I'm not here to pitch or sell anything to you.
Instead, I'm here to reveal whether or not this opportunity is perfect for you.
Transcribe.Com Review Summary
Product Name: Transcribe.Com
Founder: Not disclosed
Product Type: Work-From-Home Opportunity / Transcription Service
Price: Free to join
Best For: People who are experienced in transcribing.
Summary: Transcribe.Com is a work-from-home opportunity that provides various transcription assignments. They have a decent system in place and there's no complaints about not getting paid. However, the income potential might be lower since you're just a contractor for them. This is quite disappointing if you're looking to turn this into a business.
What is Transcribe.Com?
Transcribe.Com is one of the few popular and more established transcription websites. According to their LinkedIn profile, they’ve been around since 2013 and are currently headquartered in Swansea, Illinois.
Transcribe.com offers transcription services for varying industries including:
They also provide the following transcription items such as:
- Business meetings
- Speeches and Sermons
As of this writing, their site, Transcribe.com, is down and appears to have not renewed their domain name. However, they are always mentioned together with Rev.Com, another transcription-based company. Whether or not they are working together, we can’t confirm at this time.
The only real requirements to work with Transcribe.com is that you have to be at least 18 years old and you have to be a US Resident. They don’t cater to residents from other countries.
Other requirements will include:
- High-speed internet connection, since most audio files tend to have large file sizes. Unless you’re downloading a 3-minute audio, you’re more or less looking at least at file sizes in the gigabyte range.
- A foot pedal for transcribing, which allows you to rewind audio files easily.
- Express Scribe, a transcription software that they recommend. It costs roughly $30 a month for a subscription, which is cheap.
Transcribe.Com Application Process
The application process is straightforward. You’ll find their application link on their homepage. It will then ask you for your personal and contact information.
Then, Transcribe.com will require you to review their formatting guidelines and other important documents. They’ll also provide you with some sample transcriptions that they’ve done for their clients as reference.
Once you’re done with the guide, you’ll be asked to download an audio file and transcribe it on your software.
One thing they’ll require for your test is that your file needs to have a time-stamp. The software that they recommend will automatically do this for you. Complete the test and upload it on their website. They’ll get back to you in 2 to 3 days.
If you’re accepted, you’ll be asked to fill in your additional information, specifically payment information. Then you can start taking on transcription jobs.

How Much Does Transcribe.com Pay?
Transcribe.com pays out on a daily basis per completed task you submit. If work needs to be edited, your pay will be credited the next day, assuming you made the changes on time.
Payment is done via PayPal, and no other payment method.
They claim that their website allows you to make up to $600 in supplemental income a month. This is assuming that you spend at least 4 hours a day on doing these tasks.
Transcribe.com will also require you to pay your taxes if you make more than $600 in a given calendar year. You’ll then be asked to complete a 1099 Tax Form.
What Are The Work Hours?
The hours are flexible. You only have to log in and do the tasks that are available. However there are a few caveat that goes along with this flexibility:
- Flexibility doesn’t mean a flexible deadline. It ultimately boils down to you on whether or not you can complete the tasks available. If a task is due in 12 hours and you need to spend a few hours to do it, then there’s no point taking on that job.
- There are certain time periods where there will be more transcribers at any given time. You’d end up racing to see who’ll get the job before it’s taken down.
Who's Transcribe.Com For?
Transcribe.com is for people who are experienced with the transcription industry and how it works. This isn’t something that’s intended for beginners who don’t know how transcription works.
Transcribe.com takes in people who are knowledgeable about the industry, and have at least worked with a few clients on their own or for another company.
If you want to learn about transcribing, you can check this program called Transcribe Anywhere. It’s a training program to help you set up your transcribing business.
Transcribe.Com Ugly Truths Revealed!
#1 You’re Technically An Contractor!
Transcribe.Com basically has you as a contractor or employee, even though you’re working on your own time. Your clientele is coming from them, and not from your own network. You’re actually dubbed as an independent contractor, so kind of like an employee minus the benefits.
Transcribe Anywhere, a transcription training program, will teach you how to set up your own transcription business so you can get 100% of the profits. If you want to do this full-time, you might want to check out this course.
#2 Time-Consuming, Not Much Payout
Because you’re just getting their jobs from their clients, you’re not exactly getting the full profits of the job. At most, you’re probably getting at least 50% of what Transcribe.Com got paid for by their clients.
#3 Only Caters to US Residents
This is kind of a downer since there are people from other countries who would love to get on this work-from-home opportunity.
What I Like About Transcribe.Com?
#1 No Payment Issues
From what we’ve read on their GlassDoor and TrustPilot feedback, Transcribe.Com does a good job at paying their contractors on time.
Of course, the only gripe that people have about their payment system is the amount of money they get paid.
#2 Minimal Investment
You only need to invest in minimal equipment to do the best possible job. Pedals are about $30 to $50 on Amazon, while the software runs at about $30 a month for a subscription. You easily get your money back on the investment for the projects you take.
#3 Work From Home
As I mentioned earlier in the article, Transcribe.Com provides a decent work-from-home opportunity if you’re from the USA. With the way things are looking with this pandemic, it’s safe to say that working from home will be the new norm for at least a year.
Is Transcribe.Com a Scam?
Transcribe.Com is a decent transcription program that allows you to work from the comforts your own home. Taking on their clients, you can take on jobs that are available at your own preference.
However, it’s not something that we can recommend as a full-time income:
- Even at $600 a month in supplemental income, that’s not enough to really quit your day job over. You’d also have to devote a lot of time and effort into doing these tasks to get the amount that you need.
- It only caters to US residents. But there are other transcription programs that welcome people from other countries.
We don’t really recommend this for the time-being since their site is inaccessible, and that we don’t know if they’ve rebranded into another platform. If you want to know more about the transcription industry, check out our list of transcription income opportunities right here.
