So, rest assured that I'm not here to pitch or sell anything to you.

This makes it perfect for novice investors or people who want to start investing. However, it's not really designed for expert investors since Stash doesn't offer the kind of usability that these investors are looking for.
What is Stash Invest?
Stash Invest is an app that was launched in 2015 after founders Ed Robinson, David Ronick, and Brandon Krieg wanted to answer the question: why don’t people INVEST?
The answer was simple.
Investing was unrelatable, expensive, confusing, and intimidating.
From that answer, Stash Invest was designed to remove all of those experiences from investing.
Stash Invest allows you to start investing with only $5, and they make choosing investments extremely easy!
Stash Invest provides 30 different themed investments to choose from, which are all set for you after answering their risk tolerance and personal preference questionnaire.
Through the app, you can purchase investments, diversify, and monitor your gains/losses.
Inside Stash Invest
To get started with Stash Invest, you only have to sign up for an account through their mobile app.
As of this writing, they don’t have a website (which is a huge negative for me), so everything is done through the app.
You’ll then provide your Social Security number and then link your checking account.
The software will then require you to fill up a questionnaire to assess your level of investment risk in order to determine what your portfolio should look like.
Stash Invest Investment Portfolios
Stash will invest your money into ETF or Exchange Traded Fund, and their system has 40+ pre-built investments that you can use for your portfolio.
When you first open an account and after answering their questionnaire, the app will recommend the stocks that match your level of risk.
These stocks are a combination of large blue-chip companies, small companies, technology, health care, banking, and more.
So, these niche-focused investments allow you to invest in something that you believe in or passionate about.
As long as the investments are in line with your risk levels, Stash will take care of the rest.
What Are The Other Features?
On top of investing, there are other features that you can take advantage of:
- Stash Retire: Stash recently added a retirement investment feature where you can get either Traditional and Roth IRA accounts with a minimum of $15 investment.
- Smart-Save: A smart-save feature will monitor your spending habits and turns your extra cash into savings that’s deposited into your Stash account or can be invested.
- Automated investments: You can automate your investments through your Stash account.
- Fractional shares: Instead of buying one stock, you can buy a fraction of the share, and still make profits out of that investment.
- Educational materials: A wide array of resources made to help new investors learn about investing. These can be accessed via app and email.
- Forecasting Tools: The app allows you to see the impact of your investments and savings overtime, giving you insight on how your present decisions are affecting your future finances.
- Security: Stash uses a 256-bit bank grade encryption to secure personal information. Information sent between mobile app and their servers use SSL encryption and they don’t store banking information for long.
- SIPC Coverage: Your savings and investments are protected by SIPC Or Securities Investor Protection Corporation for up to $500,000 for brokerage and $250,000 for cash.
Stash Invest Service Fees And Minimums
You need a minimum of $5 to open an account, and only $5 to start investing. Then you also get a $5 signing bonus so that gives you $10 in total to invest.
Your first month is free, and then they charge you $1 every month.
There are no other fees or commissions beyond the management fees.
However, if your account reaches $5,000 or higher, it switches to an annual fee of 0.25% of assets under management. Which is about $12.50 a year and higher.
Low Annual Management Fees
The service is free for the first month, and then charges a monthly fee of $1. There are no other commissions or surprise fees beyond the management fees the funds themselves charge (don't forget about those).
Once your account reaches $5,000, it switches to an annual fee of 0.25% of assets under management. So for example, for a $5,000 portfolio, that’s $12.50 a year.

Who's Stash Invest For?
The automation and the minimal barrier to entry makes it very appealing to people who’re new into the world of investing, and those who want to invest but don’t know where to start.
What I Like About Stash Invest?
#1 – Low Account Minimum!
All it takes is $5 to get started with Stash, and it’s a reasonable amount for even the thriftiest investors.
This low minimum investment account is made possible by fractional shares, where Stash buys ETF’s and stocks, and splits them among investors.
You can actually start to diversify your portfolio with little money!
#2 – Automated Features!
One great thing about Stash is that it takes away a lot of the legwork to invest.
Stash automates investments by rounding up your purchases to the nearest dollar, and once those round-ups hit $5, it will send that money to your Stash account.
You can then save this money or invest it.
#3 – Great For Parents!
Parents who want to give their kids a headstart in their finances can use Stash’s custodial account. You can read more about this account by clicking this link.
Stash Invest Ugly Truths Revealed!
#1 – Limited Account Choices
Unlike other investment apps and robo advisors, Stash only provides you with taxable brokerage accounts.
Investors can’t take advantage of investing and maximizing their contributions to 401k accounts or to individual retirement.
#2 – Not For Experienced Investors!
If you’re already knowledgeable about investing, then this platform might not be for you.
The company doesn’t offer advice from other brokers and does not allow you to handpick your own stocks.
Dividends are also not reinvested automatically, so these tend to turn away investors with fatter wallets.
Is Stash Invest a Scam?
Stash Invest is a micro-investing platform that’s intended for novice investors and other people who want to secure their financial future.
Their system allows you to get started for only $5, plus you get a signing bonus of $5.
Your portfolio is also built for you through their many automated features, which take away the bulk and boring work of investing.
It’s so easy to use that even parents can use it to open an account for their children!
