What is Spare5?

Spare5 is a mobile app designed by a company called Mighty AI, a company that uses data to validate and train computer models. The tasks that they create for humans are the tasks that they want the computers to recreate.

These tasks are given out to you via your phone, and on your browser. These tasks can be done in a few seconds, which is why they’re aptly called as “micro-tasks”.

Spare5 is available to international users, but international users outside of the USA may not be able to access certain tasks due to demographics and location.

Spare5 has also made a name for itself by working alongside companies such as Expedia, Microsoft, and Amazon. Needless to say, they’re as legit as they can get.

It has worked with some big companies like Samsung, Amazon, Microsoft, Expedia, and more. So Spare5 is a legit opportunity.

Inside Spare5

It’s easy to get started with Spare5. First, download the app on your iOS phone or login via their web browser.

As of this writing (Aug 2020), they don’t have any version for Android OS and have not provided any info as to whether or not they’ll be releasing one for Android.

You’ll just need to login via their app or browser and sign up for an account.

Once your account is set up, you’ll be asked to complete a Welcome Survey, which also pays out and counts towards your earnings. This survey is all about your target demographics, so your tasks will be based on it.

After the survey, you’ll be given an initial list of tasks to complete. Just like the welcome survey, these tasks will also pay and count towards your earnings. These can be completed in a few minutes, and will pay anywhere between $0.01 to $0.50.

Spare5 Tasks

Spare5 operates like any other GPT or paid survey site, except that they don’t have your usual tasks available to these sites.

Instead, you’ll be asked to take on tasks such as:

  • Image captioning
  • Annotating images
  • Listening to audio
  • Describing movie and TV scenes
  • Tracing and centering

And so on…

You’ll also find some surveys here and there, but they’ll take 2 minutes at most to complete. As the name implies, these tasks are meant to be out and done in a few seconds.

These tasks vary in pay and in difficulty, so you’ll find tasks pay out anywhere at an average of $0.20 to $0.50 cents. I don’t think there are tasks that pay more than a dollar, but I could be wrong.

If tasks are available consistently for an hour, you’re most likely going to earn a maximum of $12 per hour, which isn’t that bad to be honest.

All of your earnings are paid out via PayPal, which is required when you sign up. Payout is every Friday, with a minimum of $1.

Spare5 Referral Program

Spare5 also has a referral program in place and will allow you to earn money through your friends. But it’s not as simple as you might think.

You don’t get access to their referral program the first time you sign in. You have to be a member of the site for a fixed number of days before you can take part in it. This is probably their way of preventing people from abusing the program.

After a while, you’ll have your own referral link which you can share to your friends. When your friends sign up for the link, you’ll get a $2 bonus every time they earn $10 while your friend gets a $1 bonus. It’s a win-win situation for you.

But the referral program has a limit. You can only earn from your referrals for 180 days, or until he or she has earned $100. This means that you can earn $20 at most from your friends.

It’s definitely not as enticing, but it’s a good way to pad up income.

Who's Spare5 For?

Spare5 is definitely made for people who want to make money on their phone or on their browser. This isn’t made to give you a full-time income, but it’s a good way to make a few bucks here and there.

Spare5 Ugly Truths Revealed!

#1 Low Income Potential

All right the big question: can you do this full-time?

Sadly, no. That $12 per hour is the ideal rate that you should be earning, but that’s best-case scenario. You’re looking at tasks consequently available within a given hour. You’d need it to be that consistent for 8 hours a day at 30 days a month in order to even consider it doing full-time.

But like most survey sites, tasks are based on demographics so you may or may not see a whole lot of them at any given time. You’d be lucky to spot one or two in a day.

And people have also quit on the program because of the low-income potential, as seen in one of their feedback:

These micro-tasks are meant to be done in between your spare time, hence the name Spare5 (spare 5 minutes of your time).

#2 People Complaining About Getting Rejected For Tasks

Spare5 has been hit with complaints from people who’ve been rejected for doing tasks while in the middle of doing them. Again, this isn’t exactly uncommon between GPT sites.

Spare5 requires certain demographics for some of its tasks. Sometimes you won’t see some tasks because they’re not meant for you. But other times, some tasks will disqualify you for earning, meaning you took the time to complete it and then only to find out at the last minute that it won’t be counted.

This can be frustrating for some, and combine this with availability of tasks, it’s probably no wonder why some have given up on using this program.

What I Like About Spare5?

#1 They Do Pay!

Spare5 pays on time, at least on the day they promised. With a low payout requirement of $1, it’s easy to get your money out without doing a lot of work.

You’ll see some positive feedback about Spare5 talking about how they were paid on time and how they got the right amount.

Is Spare5 a Scam?

Spare5 is as legitimate as it can get, and even if they work with high-end clients, the income potential isn’t really there.

  • You’re only earning a few bucks an hour, which doesn’t really equate to a full-time income. On your best day, you’re looking at more than a dollar per hour.
  • Then there’s the issue of tasks being available, which may affect your income potential directly.

Do you want to quit your job for this? Please don’t.

Is it worth doing for a few minutes of your time daily? Pretty much.
