What is Paribus?

Paribus was founded in 2014 by Eric Glyman and Karim Atiyeh, based in Brooklyn, New York.

The name is derived from the Latin phrase “ceteris paribus”, which means “all other things being equal”.

Paribus Banner

Paribus is a website that monitors online transactions you’ve made and checks if there are price drops on stores that you bought them from.

Paribus debuted in TechCrunch Disrupt, which is one of the most-anticipated technology conferences in the world.

Here’s a video of their debut:

Who owns Paribus?

Paribus has been acquired recently by Capital One, so they have access to serious funding and can help you get more money back into your bank account.

Inside Paribus

Paribus files a price adjustment claim to the merchant on your behalf to get refund on your purchase.

Stores usually guarantee prices that they sell their products to their customers.

If the price changed from the time of purchase, customers can file for a price adjustment claim and they will pay you the difference.

For example, if I bought a shirt at $20 two months ago and I found out through Paribus that the shirt that I bought now costs $15.

I am eligible to get around $5 in savings through a price adjustment claim. This is somewhat of a refund, and it’s actually legal.

To get that refund back, I would file a price adjustment claim to the store, provide a copy of the receipt of the purchase, and other documents that they require.

This would be too much of a hassle for me just to get $5 back.

I also don’t have the time to check the stores if they changed the prices of the products I purchased.

This is where Paribus comes in. They will do all of the legwork that I did above, and they will get my refund.

What Stores Does Paribus track?

Paribus is partnered with over 20 retailers to help you get your savings and cash back into your bank account.

If you’ve also noticed, these stores all have websites to shop from, so anytime you purchase a product from these partners, you can use Paribus to check if you’re eligible for the cash back claim.

Where And How To Access Paribus

When you sign up for Paribus, you’re asked to enter your contact information and the email that you use for your online shopping.

Here’s the catch:

Paribus Google Account Access

In fact, you’ll need to give them read, write, and email delete access, which is more access than you might give for any other site.

This type of access is necessary for them in order to get your personal shopping information. This is nothing to be worried about because as mentioned earlier, Paribus is a service.

It’s not a scheme or an MLM or multi-level marketing company for that matter.

Paribus can be accessed via their website or through their app. The app won’t be available for searching if you’re located outside the USA or Puerto Rico.

While refunds aren’t guaranteed, Paribus will do what they can to get you refunds if your purchases qualify for them.

The Cash Back Process With Paribus

Paribus How It Works
  1. Sign up and sync your email – Paribus connects easily with Gmail, Yahoo, and Outlook, as well as other email providers.
  2. Link your credit or debit cards (optional) – This is an optional step. This merely allows Paribus to get you the best price matching rates possible.
  3. Approve receipts for price match – Once you sync your email, Paribus checks for receipts in the inbox. If they do, you’ll have to approve it to make sure that you’d want to find a price match.
  4. Sit back and let Paribus do all the work – Once you approve a receipt, Paribus goes out and looks for price match offers for your purchase. If they find one, they’ll file a claim on your behalf.
  5. Get your money back – Once the price match is approved, you’ll get your earnings back in your original form of payment (i.e., if you paid via credit card, you’ll be debited that amount).

Is Paribus Safe?

This is probably the biggest question of all simply because Paribus requires complete access into your email and bank account information (optional, remember that).

Your personal email information and bank account information is safe and secure with Paribus. It only needs that level of access to monitor your shopping expenses and receipts.

This allows them to detect any opportunities to get you refunds when prices drop.

Without that kind of access, Paribus won’t be able to detect online receipts in your email.

Who's Paribus For?

Paribus is for:

  1. People from the USA and Puerto Rico who love to shop online.
  2. People who love to avail of cash back services.

What I Like About Paribus?

#1 - Paribus Knows Each Store's Different Price Matching Policies

Different retail stores have different policies regarding price matching or price differentials.

Some companies provide limited time to take advantage of price matching promos, while some companies don’t.

Paribus Purchase Monitoring

Paribus knows the different policies of their partner retailers, so you’ll know the opportunities to get refunds for your purchases.

In fact, companies don’t even outwardly advertise these programs. Paribus houses up-to-date information on policies and refund programs and uses this to help you get your cash back.

If you were to do what Paribus does manually, the amount of money you’ll get back will never pay off the time and effort you’ve put into it.

#2 - Get Refunds For Shipping Delays

Paribus also makes it possible to get you refunds on your online purchases when unexpected shopping delays occur.

Paribus Shipping Refund

Of course, being partnered with Amazon and Walmart does give them that ability to predict any shipping delays.

So, in the event that your shipping gets delayed, Paribus can help you get compensated.

#3 - Over $24 Million In Savings Acquired For Their Users

Since 2014, they’ve found over $24 million in potential savings for their customers. That’s an average of $6 million a year between now and 2014.

If Paribus had 100,000 members since that time period, those members probably raked in an average of $240 in savings.

That’s pretty impressive.

And they’re still working hard to streamline their refund process.

What I Don't Like About Paribus?

#1 - Paribus Is Not Working

I checked their BBB profile to see the most common complaints that customers have had with the service.

Paribus BBB Complaint

The most common one is that the app is not working for them because Paribus has not given them their money back.

This can be due to one of two things:

  1. Paribus hasn’t found a purchase eligible for a price adjustment claim
  2. Or the company never issued the refund.

The latter may not be Paribus’ fault entirely since it’s not Paribus that gives you the refund but the actual store.

Paribus just contacts the store on your behalf and works from there.

I am likely to give Paribus the benefit of the doubt because it’s an isolated case, and that it didn’t happen to a lot of the users.

In their BBB profile, they closed 4 complaints in the last 3 years, and 1 complaint in the last 12 months.

#2 - Very High Service Fee!

Their service is incredible, and there’s no denying that. But let’s be realistic for a bit.

Paribus needs to make money from their service, and they are charging 25% for every successful refund issued. This is taken out of the customers’ refunded amount.

That’s already a huge cut if I’m expecting a $5 refund from a purchase.

Of that $5, Paribus takes out 25%, so that’s a $1.25 cut for them.

But then again, I can’t complain about the rate.

The service that they are offering is way too valuable. I’m still getting $3.75 back from my purchase, and that’s enough to prove that Paribus does work.

Is Paribus A Scam?

Paribus is a legitimate company that provides cash back services through their intensive knowledge about price adjustment and refund policies of their 20 or so partner retail stores.

There are no loopholes being exposed, no secret coupon code, or anything.

Paribus provides similar services to that of Market America or Lyoness, both of which are MLM companies, but without the sign-up fees, compensation plan, or recruitment.

If you’re thinking about trying out this app, I would recommend doing so.

First, they are well-versed with the price matching and price adjustment policies of individual partner stores. That’s why they are capable of even getting you that refund in the first place.

Second, they help you get compensated for shipping delays. It’s a big deal for anyone shopping online to get their products on time. Paribus makes sure that if you don’t get your shipment on time, you’ll get paid.

Lastly, they’ve acquired over $24 million in potential savings in the 4 years they started. That’s a huge achievement within a short time span.
