What is Babbletype?

Babbletype is your typical work-at-home transcription sites and there has been a lot of talk about the company in terms of what they can do for freelance transcriptionists and those who’re looking to make money online.

Babbletype Review - Landing Page

Their main focus is on audio transcription and they provide work-at-home opportunities to novices who don’t have any experiences in specialized transcriptions, namely medical and legal.

Babbletype has been around for a long time now. They started out in 2009 under different names, but have retained the same ownership for the past decade.

What they do specialize in ins qualitative market research files, which includes focus group discussions and interviews. Babbletype is a trusted company of this kind of transcription work and are kept busy enough to receive thousands of files every month.

Inside Babbletype

Babbletype is a work-at-home opportunity that still allows you to make money online, but it doesn’t really have any form of passive income. If you’re looking for passive income, this program isn’t for you.

Babbletype employs different people to work on their transcription projects and others. The freelancers will accept the audio files and transcribe or translate the files into text documents.

The company offers three kinds of jobs:

  • Transcription
  • Proofreading
  • Translation

Transcription has you listening to audio files from companies and then converting them into text.

Proofreading has you reading transcriptions (from different people) and look for errors.

Translation is similar to transcription, but instead you’re listening to foreign audio files and convert them into English text.

Babbletype Pay Rates

The pay varies from every job you do, and these are the average rates:

Babbletype Review - Rates
  • Transcription jobs vary from $.40-$.60 per audio minute.
  • Proofreading jobs vary from $.13-$.18 depending on the language.
  • Translation jobs vary from $1.30-$1.60 per audio minute depending on language and type of transcript to translate.

Translation jobs offer more, but they require people who’re fluent in multiple languages.

Payment is done through Paypal accounts every week, and this is the only payment method for the site.

Babbletype Test & Requirements

The application process is quite extensive, so it doesn’t really allow you to hit the ground running. Babbletype wants to ensure their clients that they’re giving out quality work, so they’ll have to make sure that they’re hiring the best people.

You’ll be required to go through an evaluation test before you can get hired. The test takes about 3 hours to finish, and then you’ll hear from them if you’re hired.

You’re not going to get paid for the evaluation test and there’s no guarantee that you’re going to get hired. So if you want to get a job from them, then you’ll have to do your best with the test.

As for requirements, you may need the following:

  • High speed Internet connection – Audio files may be large in file size, and you need to download them as fast as you can.
  • A decent headset – you need to hear the files clearly in order to deliver quality work. You’ll find high quality headsets for about $50 on Amazon.

Who's Babbletype For?

Babbletype is intended for those who want to try out transcription jobs and for those who’re looking for a work-at-home opportunity.

Babbletype Ugly Truths Revealed!

#1. Low Income Potential

Sadly, the income potential here is quite low and it’s far from the industry standards of a transcriptionist. There’s also no guarantee here that whatever you submit is billed to the client.

Babbletype Review - Low Income

Babbletype Review - Low Income

If the quality of the work doesn’t match their standards, you don’t get paid for it. There’s no mention of being able to do revisions, so once you submit, it’s done. It boils down to the client as to whether or not you get paid.

#2. Little Training Provided

Sometimes, audio can be difficult to hear, which makes it difficult to transcribe or translate. Now there’s some training to go around this certain problem, but Babbletype doesn’t provide any.

There are videos that do give out instructions on how to proceed, but not good enough for those who’re just starting out.

#3. Transcription Is Not For Everyone

Transcription isn’t something you just decide to do. There are a lot of skills and nuances that are required for this job.

With that said, Babbletype may not be for you if you don’t know how transcriptions work in a nutshell.

What I Like About Babbletype?

#1. Flexible Output and Schedule

So the output and schedule for Babbletype is flexible, so you can choose when to work and how much work to do. This makes it great for people who just want to earn money on the side.

#2. Transcription, As A Whole, Is Very Lucrative

As a whole, transcription jobs are very lucrative and it takes more than just signing up for a site to earn thousands of dollars a month.

If you want to get started with setting up your own transcription business, then you have to invest in a good training program.

The program that we can recommend is Transcribe Anywhere. You can read our review about the program by clicking that link.

It shows you how to start your medical and legal transcription services and how to set up your own transcription business. The program also teaches you the basics of transcription services, so you’ll be able to develop a strong foundation.

Is Babbletype a Scam?

Babbletype is a legitimate company that provides a decent work-at-home opportunity for anyone looking to try out transcription jobs.

However, the income potential is quite low so if you’re looking for a full-time income, this program may not be for you. And there’s no guarantee that any completed work you submit will be paid for.

If you want to get started with transcription services, do it right and go through training first and then look for jobs out there. Transcription jobs are very lucrative, and sadly Babbletype isn’t one of them.
