ReceiptPal Review - A Good Cashback Receipt Scanning App?

ReceiptPal Review – A Good Cashback Receipt Scanning App?

Welcome to my ReceiptPal review!

Cashback and receipt scanning apps aren’t exactly popular, mostly due to the fact that people don’t know they exist or don’t know how they work. For the avid and frequent shopper, they can use this app to get their money back.

It may not be a way to make money online but there’s some value behind apps like ReceiptPal, which we’ll review today.

First of all, I must Congratulate you for taking your time to do your own research before buying into any "seemingly good" product.

Let me be completely transparent with you, I'm not associated with ReceiptPal in any form.

So, rest assured that I'm not here to pitch or sell anything to you.

Instead, I'm here to reveal whether this receipt scanning app is any good or not...

What is ReceiptPal?

ReceiptPal is a receipt-scanning and cashback app designed by a massive market research company called NDP in 2013. Needless to say, they’ve been around for a few years now.

Like other scanning apps, ReceiptPal is partnered with various stores, allowing you to earn rewards when you scan receipts from these stores.

NDP has been around for more than 50+ years, so you’re assured that your personal information is safe in their hands. On top of that, ReceiptPal does not store any personal information from your end. They just want to know about your shopping habits.

Inside ReceiptPal

ReceiptPal is available for downloading on both Android and iOS for free. You just do the following steps:

  1. Download the app
  2. Create an account and fill up their demographic questionnaire
  3. Start scanning receipts to earn rewards.

You can also connect your Amazon account if you want digital access to their rewards, which we’ll explain in the next few sections.

What Kind of Receipts Work?

ReceiptPal accepts receipts coming from various stores, and they’re not particular with the name of the store.

Here’s a short list of stores that ReceiptPal will accept receipts from:

  • Convenience stores.
  • Travel and entertainment.
  • Restaurants.
  • Grocery stores.
  • Clothing stores.
  • Sporting goods stores.
  • Electronics stores.
  • Gas stations.
  • Car dealerships.
  • Online retailers.

Any retail store that sells consumer goods and its receipts are eligible for scanning, which is a good thing.

The receipt also needs to be in English and purchased in US$ from the USA, Puerto Rico, Guam, and Virgin Islands.

How Does ReceiptPal Work?

The biggest drawbacks for ReceiptPal is that their scanning app has limited earning potential.

If you just want to install this app to get some cash back from your purchases, here’s how ReceiptPal works:

Upload Receipts

The main source of income is through uploading receipts. Just scan your receipt after shopping and wait for the earnings to reflect on your account.

ReceiptPal uses Point Cards to keep track of how many receipts you uploaded, which is different from the other apps.

Here’s how their Point Cards work:

Point Cards are worth 100 points. Each card allows you to upload 4 receipts, so each receipt is 25 points

You can have 5 point cards maximum at all times and you’ll receive three new cards at the start of each new week.

The trick here is to upload receipts of small purchases to get through these cards since there’s no minimum value for the receipts.

Amazon and Email

You can connect your Amazon account and email account to give ReceiptPal access to the e-receipts you get from purchasing online.

You also get added benefits for being connected for longer than a month.

You can also check out the Amazon Shopper Panel program to earn money from your receipts.3.

How to Redeem ReceiptPal Rewards?

Once you reach the minimum threshold, you can cash out by following these steps:

Go to the Rewards Tab and choose the Free Gift Card reward you want to redeem

Select Redeem

From there, you’ll get the code of the reward you chose via email.

Their rewards system is divided into three levels:

Level 1 – $5 gift cards (2,200 points minimum)

Level 2 – $10-$25 gift cards (4,000 points minimum)

Level 3 – $50-100 gift cards (17,250 points minimum)

You need the bare minimum of 2,200 points before you can redeem any rewards, but it shouldn’t take you long as long as you’re a frequent shopper.

Earning Potential

2,200 points is about $5 in gift cards, so that’s roughly $0.0023 for every 1 point, or $0.23 for 100 points.

With their 5 card maximum, you can only earn 500 points each week. That’s going to take you a month to redeem $5 back, assuming you have something to scan every day.

Who's ReceiptPal For?

ReceiptPal is meant for the frequent shoppers, both physical and online. The point system isn’t that impressive, so you have to make up for it in volume.

ReceiptPal Ugly Truths Revealed!

#1 New System Is Terrible

ReceiptPal apparently made some changes to the rewards system and their users were not so happy with the changes. Users complained that it’s now more difficult to earn more points and the system is now more confusing, leading to a lot of people uninstalling the app.

#2 Weekly Limits

The limited number of receipts you can submit each week is a huge problem, especially for a cashback app. You get new cards every week, but even if you do completely submit to these cards, it will take you a month to cash out the gift cards.

#3 Points Are Not Forever

The new system mentioned that the points are only good for up to two months, so you have to be actively scanning up until you are able to cash out.

You also need to be consistently logging in and scanning at least once a day to keep the points active.

What I Like About ReceiptPal?

There are better cashback apps out there, and ReceiptPal doesn’t do well against it. We recommend you check out GetUpside and Paribus.

Is ReceiptPal a Scam?

ReceiptPal is not a scam and it’s a legitimate cashback app that a lot of frequent shoppers might enjoy using. However, they made several changes to the system that it’s now difficult to earn points on the program.

Compared to the other cashback apps we reviewed, ReceiptPal does not do well against any of them.

The weekly limits and the expiring points are just going to hinder you from cashing out as soon as possible. With Covid-19 restrictions still in place, it will be difficult for you to shop anywhere outside the comforts of your own home.

Unless you do a lot of online shopping on Amazon, we just can’t recommend ReceiptPal to anyone.
