Is Norwex a Scam? (A “Good Way” to Lose Friends & Family!)

I'm guessing that probably someone has recommended Norwex to you, or you've seen people sharing about it on social media, or you've even attended a Home Party organized by one of your friends/family members.

And now everything just seems very awesome - you can finally take better care of your family's health and even make a living from Norwex to enjoy much better lifestyle.

I understand.

That's why I must say CONGRATULATIONS to you!

I congratulate you for taking your time to do your own research before buying into any "seemingly good" product/business opportunity.

That's the way to avoid scams and find the legitimate way to make money online!

By the way, I'm not saying Norwex is a scam.

But my suggestion to you is to stay away from this company because the business model is really not sustainable.

Most importantly, it's even possible for you to lose a lot more money than you can make.

Let me prove it to you...

Background Info

As its name suggests, Norwex is an eco-friendly Network Marketing company founded in Norway in 1994 by this guy called Bjørn Nicolaisen.

Bjorn Nicolaisen founded the company after discovering a special microfiber cloth that was extremely effective at cleaning his windshield using nothing but water.

He developed an entire list of household products that could effectively clean without using any chemicals, and Norwex was born.

In short, Norwex is a MLM company selling chemical-free household cleaning products. Afterwards, it expands to personal care as well.

​Norwex Product Line

To be honest, they have a TON of products ranging from bathroom cleaner, to kitchen towel, to laundry detergent and even to toothbrush, deodorant, etc...

Any household cleaning and personal care product you can think of, Norwex has it.

The difference between their products and other competitors is that they emphasize on eliminating the use of harmful chemicals.

Thus, their mission is:

"Improving quality of life by radically reducing chemicals in our homes"

Is it really the case?

I've some interesting proofs to show you in a second.

But let's take a look at their flagship product first - A wildly popular micro-silver cloth known as "EnviroCloth".

They claimed that its anti-bacterial fiber can "attract" dirt, grease, dust and breakdown grime that would usually require chemicals to breakdown.

All you need to do is to dip it into water and wipe.

It really sounds like magic but here's the explanation for it:

So, I agree that Norwex does have some very unique and useful products to be sold.

In this perspective, Norwex is definitely not a scam.

You can be a consumer of Norwex but I still don't recommend it in terms of building a business and making money.

Let's take a look at their compensation plan first and I'll explain to you with evidence!

I really don't recommend Norwex as a business because it's still focusing on organizing Home Parties to recruit downlines and sell products.

There's nothing wrong with organizing Home Parties and it does work. But it's definitely not for everyone and it's not a long term strategy.

Eventually, you'll run out of friends & family members to invite to your "party".

And to be honest, "party" is just a fancy term to describe this "product showcase session".

Basically, what you'll be doing is to demonstrate to your friends how powerful Norwex's products are and try to recruit them to become your downline or sell them your products.

Imagine yourself cleaning stuff in front of your friends...

How effective do you think this strategy is in the long run?

That's an important question you need to ask yourself.

Norwex doesn't provide you with much training and support on other forms of running this business. (e.g. Online marketing)

Anyway, here are some straight facts about Norwex's compensation plan:

• To become a Consultant and start running this business, you have to pay $200 upfront to purchase their Starter Kit (training, marketing & materials to help you get started)
• As a consultant, you earn 35% on your personal retail sales
• From each sale, you'll not only earn a commission, but you'll also get discounts on the next batch of products

1. Product Oriented

Unlike some scammy MLM companies, Norwex doesn't focus on recruiting. Instead, they are considered a product-oriented company.

The good thing about this is that it will never get itself into the trouble of being regarded as a pyramid scheme because a pyramid scheme is the model that only focuses on recruiting downlines.

2. Product Guarantee

If you go and do some research about their products, you'll find that they have really good reputation and reviews.

Apart from the solid products, you're also covered with a 60-Day Satisfaction Guarantee.

You're able to get a refund, replace or exchange within the period.

Also, there's a 2-year microfiber warranty covers any problem you may encounter outside of normal wear and tear.

This is also why their products, especially their microfiber cloths are so popular and well-received.

1. False Information/Claims

Norwex claims that their microfiber products can remove up to 99% of bacteria from a surface when the cloth has been made wet with just water.

But what I've found out is that it's only effective in removing dirt, stains, dusts, etc.

In terms of anti-bacteria, there were people who have done testing that the claims aren't true.

Take a look at this:

This is what he said...

"My wife purchased $125 worth of these cloths telling me that they kill bacteria and will not spread bacteria. I am in the medical field and do not believe anything without reviewing evidence and studies. 

I therefore took one of our regular dish cloths as well as a Norwex and used them both for a day in the usual dish-washing and counter cleaning fashion and then went to our lab and cultured them both.

The Norwex cloth actually grew out a higher number of different bacterial colonies than the regular dish cloth.

If you like the cloth because it feels good or wipes up better, and feel like spending 20 times as much on a cloth, then great, go for it. But if you are using it because it is impregnated with silver to kill bacteria then you are being duped! It is nothing more than a scam with multi-level marketing.

Proof is in the culture and agar plates! We used to use silver for burns, infections, etc, but now just use Bacitracin. Ask any specialized burn unit. Silver has lost favor in the antibacterial world."

2. Sneaky Starter Kit

Another problem is that they're not so honest about the price of their Starter Kit.

On their website, it says you can get the Starter Kit for FREE. But they didn't explicitly mention to you the requirement.

The requirement for you to get it for FREE is that you need to have a minimum of $2,000 in sales within the first 90 days!

If not, you'll be billed $200 for the Starter Kit.

I only managed to find this disclosure at a very tiny corner in their PDF.

These words are too small to be easily read. You need to enlarge it like I did to see the requirement.

This is really sneaky and an unethical way to get people's money!

I cannot agree with this kind of marketing tactics.

3. Very Demanding Compensation Plan

• In order to stay active, you need to sell $250 worth of products every 3 months.
• If you become inactive, you’ll be charged a fee to reactivate your account.
• And after 12 months without sales, you’re no longer considered a consultant.

In other words, they're giving you pressure to make sales which is really bad.

This will lead to another more serious issue - Stockpiling!

For those who can't meet the sales requirement, their uplines will most likely ask them to purchase the products themselves so that they can stay active.

And this viscous cycle can just go on and on and on.

Stockpiling is one of the main reasons why many people struggle with MLM!

A lot of people get themselves further into debt instead of making their dreams come true because of stockpiling.

This is really bad! It is a possible problem you need to consider.

4. Outdated & Ineffective Sales Method

I need to criticize again on their "Home Party Model".

Organizing Home Party is the ONLY way they teach to run this business.

Let me list down the potential problems for you:

• Your target audience is only your friends & family members (no strangers will come to your house and watch you clean!)
• This also means that you're going to run out of people to invite
• And people don't need to buy new microfiber clothes every week
• So, this is NOT effective and sustainable
• You're leaving money on the table when you can reach a lot more people leveraging the Internet!

Supporters of Norwex may argue that Norwex also provides you with your consultant website at around $10/month.

But let me tell you...

I'm now a 21-year-old College dropout who is making 4-Figure monthly passive income online. So I know exactly how to run a successful website.

Many MLM companies are starting to provide you with websites so that you can sell your products online.

But unless you're experienced in internet marketing, it's IMPOSSIBLE for you to get any results with these pre-built websites.

The reason is simple:

• These are just duplicated websites
• It's impossible for them to rank in Google and get Free targeted traffic from search engines
• You have to rely on networking, social media or paid traffic to see some results
• Paid traffic is the most effective but it can also cost you hundreds and thousands of dollars

That's exactly why things are not working out for many people who don't know exactly what they're doing, which is a really sad thing to see 🙁

5. Not Transparent

Last but not least, you can't find any Income Disclosure Statement or compensation plan documents on Norwex's website.

These are essential documents to have for any MLM companies.

I'm not sure why they don't have it but I'm really concerned for them...

Nope, Norwex is NOT a scam because they have pretty solid products that people love to use.

Also, the fact that their business model is product-oriented separates themselves from pyramid schemes and other scammy MLM companies.

Despite having a legit business model, it's really not the best way one can make money.

Let me summarize the problems for you:

• High startup cost ($200)
• Limited & outdated method to sell products (Home Party)
• Having pressure on you to make sales
• Potential Stockpiling issue
• Not a sustainable way to make money

In short, my conclusion for Norwex is this...

"Good product but not-so-good business opportunity"
