What is LiveOps?

LiveOps is a cloud-based call center company that hires individuals like you as private contractors. Your job will be to take or make phone calls for sales, hospitals, customer service, and other industries that need the services of a call center agent.

The company was founded by Steve Doumar, Doug Feirstein, Wendell Brown, and Bill Trenchard in 2002. They’re currently operating out of Scottsdale, Arizona. The company was formed from the merger of two Silicon Valley startups: CallCast and LiveOps.

The company only accepts people from the USA as of this writing.

Inside LiveOps

The company will need you to submit your application online. As part of the application, the company is required to carry out a credit check and background check on anyone who applies to be a contractor.

This will cost you $45 and is a non-refundable payment. The process will be carried out by the company.

You’ll also need your own tax identification number but you’ll be classified as a self-employed individual when you file taxes.

If you already have a LLC or operate a company through a partnership, you can provide LiveOps with your EIN number.

As a private contractor, you are your own boss and you cannot sub-contract the jobs to other persons. You can also work as a private contractor for other companies as long as you fulfill your duties with LiveOps.

What Equipment Is Needed?

LiveOps is particular about the equipment you need for work. Here’s a short list:

  1. A quiet work environment that has minimal to no background noise
  2. Corded telephone with corded headset that’s compatible with the corded phone. You can’t use a mobile phone or wireless phone. You also need to disable call waiting and voicemail.
  3. Dedicated landline and telephone service from companies such as AT&T.
  4. Internet connection hooked to a computer
  5. A computer with at least 1GB of RAM and P4 Processor with Windows Vista, 7, 8, or 10.

How Many Hours Can You Work?

You can schedule your operating hours in 30-minute blocks and you can choose the best times that fit your schedule.

Each contract lasts for six months and you can renew when the contract is up. But if you also want to renew your contract, you need to meet a minimum number of calls or hours worked for LiveOps.

What Jobs Are Available?

LiveOps offers phone-related jobs. You make or receive calls for sales, insurance, health care, roadside assistance, and general customer service.

LiveOps acquires contracts from programs and companies that need call center agents, and then LiveOps hires individual agents to help with these calls. This is where you come in.

As mentioned earlier, you can set your own hours, with a minimum of 30-minutes each work session.

Apart from the phone calls, you get access to training resources to help you become a better agent. But remember, you won’t get paid for your training time, nor does it count as work.

How Much Can You Earn?

LiveOps pays you $0.25 cents per talk minute. Talk minute refers to the time you spend talking to a client on the phone. There are other clients who’ll pay out a base time rate and bonus for commissions. The latter is most common with sales and insurance-related calls.

How Are You Paid?

You need to submit an invoice for each of the clients you handle. You’ll be paid by check or direct deposit through your bank account. Pay schedule is twice a month for the invoices you submit.

Who's LiveOps For?

LiveOps is meant for people who have had prior work experience in the call center industry. This income opportunity might be overwhelming for new agents.

LiveOps Ugly Truths Revealed!

#1 Cost of Background Checks

You have to pay $45 for a background check to be carried out by LiveOps. Granted, this is relatively cheaper compared to other companies charging you hundreds of dollars for a background check.

LiveOps just wants to make sure that the agents they’re hiring have clean backgrounds. If you don’t get accepted by LiveOps, you don’t get the money back you paid for the background check.

#2 Low Income Potential

You need to work constantly to make the income opportunity worth your while. At $0.25 per talk minute, you’re looking at about a few dollars on average per hour. If you have to earn the minimum wage, you’re looking at 30 minutes of talk time. It sounds a lot easier said than done actually because depending on the industry you’re in.

#3 Unpaid Time For Training

You don’t get paid for the time you spend training as an agent. You’ll need to cut your training short or speed it up so you can start earning.

What I Like About LiveOps?

#1 Competitive Pay

$0.25 is relatively high by industry standards, and it’ll only take about 30 minutes to get to the minimum wage. But again, it depends on the industry you’re taking or making calls to. If you’re in customer service or anything that has high-frequency calls, you’re going to make a lot of money.

Is LiveOps a Scam?

LiveOps is a legitimate income opportunity that hires you as a private contractor within their call center. You operate on your own time and you have full control over what clients to pick.

If you want to make a sizable income, you need to get into an industry that has you picking up the phone for at least 30 minutes. 30 minutes of talk time is all you need to meet minimum wage.

If you’re already familiar with how the call center business operates, this might be worth looking into. If not, you might want to look someplace else. LiveOps is not a place for people looking to just get started with the call center biz.
