Is TaskRabbit a Scam? Don’t Sign Up Till You Read This Review…
Welcome to my TaskRabbit review!
Not so long ago, I watched an episode of The Simpsons about an app that had people hiring other people to do mundane tasks. It was kind of like Grab, but instead of getting cabs or cars, you’re getting people.
This app is 100% similar to the one that the show had showcased, and even the name is closely synonymous.
This is TaskRabbit…
First of all, I must Congratulate you for taking your time to do your own research before buying into any "seemingly good" product.
That's the way to avoid scams and find the legitimate way to make money online!
Let me be completely transparent with you, I'm not associated with TaskRabbit in any form.
So, rest assured that I'm not here to pitch or sell anything to you.
Instead, I'm here to reveal why you shouldn't jump on this bandwagon just yet before you read the review.
TaskRabbit Review Summary
Product Name: TaskRabbit
Founder: Leah Busque
Product Type: Get Paid to Do Chores
Price: $25 one-time fee for Taskers
Best For: People who want to earn money by doing chores.
Summary: TaskRabbit is a platform that has you working as a Tasker where you get paid to do chores for other people. As fun as it might sound, the program isn't all that's hyped up to be. The main reason we can't recommend this is that it isn't a form of passive income. You still have to work for a few hours to get paid. I'll explain later why this is a hit-or-miss program for you.
Recommended: Yes and No!
What is TaskRabbit?
TaskRabbit is a website/mobile app designed to connect people who need chores and tasks done with other people who are willing to do the work for them.
Upon completion of the chore, they will be paid a certain fee. Kind of like Grab or Uber, but this app’s for hailing people to do work.
The tasks that people need done in their house range anywhere from installing appliances, furniture assembly, picking up laundry, doing groceries, and so on.
TaskRabbit was founded by Leah Busque in 2008 and launched during the same year. It first started out as RunMyErrand, but later rebranded to TaskRabbit in 2010. The company is currently located in San Francisco, California where it started as a start-up.
It then became a subsidiary of IKEA in September 2017, which became part of its value-added service for their customers. And the service was furniture assembly.
And before I forget, the name of the app that was showcased on The Simpson’s is Chore Monkey. I don’t know if it’s in reference to TaskRabbit, but either way, it’s funny.
TaskRabbit works for two groups of people:
- Clients or people who are looking for help with chorers
- Rabbits or Taskers who want to make money
The focus of this review will be on how Rabbits can take advantage of the program.
notify all the rabbits who have profiles related to fixing electronics and stuff like that.
Working As a Rabbit
When you’re hired as a Rabbit, you’ll get notififations about nearby work that could be done by you. You may accept or decline the tasks the same way that Uber and Grab drivers can accept or decline passengers.
Once you accept the task, the client will be notified and then you can communicate about the details of the tasks and the payment.
Once you finish the task, the client will be notified and then you’ll be compensated.
What are the Requirements?
To sign up as a Tasker, you’ll need to fulfill some of the requirements for the program:
- Be at least 18 years old if you’re from the UK, and 21 if you’re from the USA
- Live in cities or metro areas where TaskRabbit is available
- Must have a US Social Security Number, which is required for background checks.
- Provide real info (for criminal background check)
- Have a UK or US bank account
- Must have a smartphone (iOS or Android)

How to Work for TaskRabbit
The application process is fairly simple and as long as you fulfill their requirements, you’re going to be able to apply for the Tasker position.
- First, you need to register online and fill out the application form
- Then you’ll need to do a video interview in order to be accepted or considered.
- Once that’s done, you’ll have to download the app and login with your info if you’re accepted
The TaskRabbit is available for Android and iOS phones.
How Much Does TaskRabbit Cost?
TaskRabbit is free for Clients, but as a Tasker, you’ll need to pay a registration fee of $25 or £20 for the UK taskers.
This is non-refundable and doesn’t even guarantee that you’re going to be approved to work as a Tasker.
Another thing to note is that TaskRabbit will take a percentage cut out of your fee from each payment you receive, which is about 15 to 35%, which is insanely high.
How Much Money Can You Make on TaskRabbit?
This depends on the hours and tasks that you’re willing to work on. Some members claim that they’re earning $2,000 per week by doing tasks but you should take this with a grain of salt.
Certain tasks will also pay out more, depending on how labor-intensive it is. For example, installing CPU’s might be cheaper than moving boxes out of moving vans.
Either way, the minimum that you can earn with TaskRabbit is $11.05 per hour, which is a lot higher wage compared than other countries.
How Does TaskRabbit Pay You?
TaskRabbit pays you via PayPal once you reach a threshold of $25. You can also request a check payment but it will take up to 7 days. PayPal payments show up in your account in 24 hours.
Once you find a task that you’re interested in, you can submit a bid and if it’s accepted, you can start to do the work.
Who's TaskRabbit For?
TaskRabbit is meant for one group of people: those who want to get paid doing random chores and tasks during their spare time.
This isn’t something that can give you a passive income too, so if you’re looking for that, this isn’t the program for you.
TaskRabbit Ugly Truths Revealed!
#1 Unfair Review System
One of the biggest disappointments about the program is that their review system is unfair to the Taskers.
Just like most GPT sites, you’ll have people rate your work and service. Your pay gets affected by this rating.
With that said, a lot of Taskers vented out about how the review system is one-sided, favoring the clients over the Taskers. Check out these reviews below:
Now it’s no surprise that you’ll have unreasonable clients have you doing a lot of work for the price of 1. If you don’t do the tasks that you weren’t asked to do to begin with, you’re given a negative review and this affects you big time.
#2 Limited Availability
This opportunity is only available to metro cities in the USA and UK, so if you’re in the provinces or boondocks, then you might not be able to take full advantage of this opportunity.
They didn’t mention that they won’t be scaling to other countries, so we’ll have to wait and see.
#3 It's Not Passive Income!
The thing about this program is that it doesn’t give you a passive income. You have to leave your house, drive to the client’s place, and actually do some of the work.
This is only appealing to people who have a lot of spare time on their hands who want to make money in the process.
#4 You Need To Pay a Registration Fee!
All Taskers need to pay a registration fee of $25, or EUR20. This is non-refundable and will not guarantee that you get accepted into the program.
#5 Lack of Customer Service Support for Taskers
It’s no surprise that with the presence of a 1-sided review system for Taskers, there would also be a lack of customer service support for Taskers. Taskers are left hanging in the dust whenever they want to bring up certain issues.
Apparently, their customer service also sides with clients, even if they’re in the wrong or are abusive.
What I Like About TaskRabbit?
#1 Make Money In Your Spare Time!
This is a good thing to get into if you have nothing else to do in your spare time and if you want to make some money.
As long as TaskRabbit is available in your area, you could earn a few bucks every week. But don’t quit your day job over it though.
Is TaskRabbit a Scam?
TaskRabbit is a legitimate application and program that could help you earn money by doing other people’s tasks for them. However, it has its own shortcomings which makes us not want to recommend this program to anyone.
- The review system and customer service are one-sided and they don’t favor the taskers. You’re basically going up against the client and the company when you’re dealing with problems.
- The registration fee doesn’t guarantee that you’re going to get hired as a Tasker. The fees are not refundable as well.
- Lastly, this isn’t a passive income opportunity because you’re going to be working your butt off to make some money.
However, if you just want to make some money during your spare time, this might be worth checking out.
